I relocated for work and Crime rate is something to consider -Kalamazoo sits at 1,235.2 per 100K. Median household income is $48,965, which feels on the lower side for the area. Poverty rate is 17.2%, which is higher than I expected. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Is this normal for Kalamazoo? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
- The safety scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Springfield. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great Mexican places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from New York about 11 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.
