Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a college student here and Homes are going for about $306,200 on average. The median home value here is around $306,200, which seems about average. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs? Looking forward to hearing from you all. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great Italian places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Oak Park area are decent. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Asian.
No regrets on my end..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.
