Not sure if this has been asked before, but I work in media and The median home value here is around $390,600, which seems about average. The weather takes some getting used to. Would love some local perspective. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I've lived in Uptown for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- The nightlife scene is average
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Cedar Grove area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is solid in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 12 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 41, moved here 14 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The dating scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 10 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Raleigh about 5 years ago. The main reasons were work and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for family and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The community vibe is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
