Best hidden gems in Kankakee

Longtime lurker here, I work in finance and Household incomes average around $45,119 in Kankakee. With a population of 24,384, Kankakee is a small town. You can expect to pay around $986 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Lots of new development
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Rising rent prices
- Poor road conditions
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Far from major airports

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
