What's it really like living in Kannapolis?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm originally from St. Louis and Crime rate is something to consider -Kannapolis sits at 260.2 per 100K. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 8 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from New York about 2 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is solid.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
