I keep seeing people overlook Kansas City when talking about great places to live. With a population of 154,776, it's big enough to have everything you need but small enough to feel like a community. The downtown area has been revitalized. Weather is moderate — about 57F average.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

The job market has been improving lately. Several manufacturing companies moved in recently.

If you can afford it, University District is the best place to live. Period.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is drive around neighborhoods at different times before committing. Makes a big difference.

Coming from LA, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are cheaper.

I work in manufacturing and finding a job wasn't hard. Took about 2 months.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Lakewood. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Totally agree with this. I've been here 14 years and my experience is very similar.
