Working remotely from Kansas City

So, Household incomes average around $59,183 in Kansas City. Rent is about $1,073/month for a decent place. Median household income is $59,183, which feels about average for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Worth the trade-offs? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I've lived in Westside for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The healthcare scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much stable but now it's excellent.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Seattle about 6 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is improving.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 27, moved here 15 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Westside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The food scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
