Planning a move to Kansas City — neighborhoods?

Hey folks, I relocated for work and Average temperature is around 55°F, so the weather is moderate. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 32, moved here 15 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in East and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The job market situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a chef and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.
