Been meaning to ask this. I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,997/month for a decent place. It's a a small town city with about 10,886 people. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance! Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 11 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for work and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The walkability is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Nashville about 14 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited public transit options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.
