Hello, I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $988/month for a decent place. With a population of 17,237, Kaukauna is a small town. The median home value here is around $198,800, which is actually reasonable. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What neighborhoods would you suggest? TIA! The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Maple Ridge area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 3 years. Moved from Raleigh for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited entertainment options. Bugs and humidity in summer. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 4 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely excellent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Definitely worth checking out..
