Random thought, Rent is about $786/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Chicago about 13 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is average.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 14 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've lived in Highland for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The public transit scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..
