Kearny in the winter -how bad?

First post here. I'm a teacher here and It's a a small town city with about 2,245 people. Homes are going for about $125,700 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Kearny sits at 46.1 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $904 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. TIA! The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Houston about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a lawyer and I've found the quality of life is solid. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 7 years. Moved from Portland for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is average - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Property taxes are high. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 5/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
