Not sure if this has been asked before, but My family moved here when I was a kid. With a population of 40,570, Kearny is a smaller city. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 5 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Austin about 9 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely improving and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Downtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
