Alright, Military spouse here. Median household income is $116,838, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $116,838 in Ken Caryl. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Has anyone dealt with this? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Westside. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in retail. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Asian.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the Springfield side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Bought a house here in 2015 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Maple Ridge. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Nashville about 7 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much manageable but now it's tough.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Riverside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
