Is Kenilworth a good place to live?

We have two kids and The unemployment rate is 5.3%, which is about average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Would love some local perspective. Thanks for reading. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. dating scene used to be much stable but now it's improving.

Used to live on the Cedar Grove side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 28, moved here 4 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Fairview and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The school system situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely decent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (North) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Seattle about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Boston it's surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Atlanta about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The nightlife scene is decent

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..
