OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely pretty good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been here 12 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in West for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- The housing market scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

Cons that are real:

- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is better than expected.
