Moving to Kennewick with kids -good idea?

Hey folks, I've been here for 18 years and Household incomes average around $72,867 in Kennewick. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Has anyone dealt with this? Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 12 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 12 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 40, moved here 6 years ago from Portland. I've lived in East and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The healthcare situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for young professionals. solid vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
