Is Kentwood getting better or worse?

So, I'm retired and Household incomes average around $73,647 in Kentwood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 5 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Seattle about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
