Hey everyone, I work in energy and Rent is about $1,052/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,052 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Would love some local perspective. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely decent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Riverside area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is solid in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Austin about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The nightlife is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
