First post here. Am I overthinking this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The walkability is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely decent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Midtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Houston about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Minneapolis about 4 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
