Raising a family in Kerrville -thoughts?

So, Homes are going for about $272,700 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Kerrville sits at 209.2 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,075 for rent here. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Is this normal for Kerrville? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The walkability is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 44, moved here 15 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Lakewood and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The healthcare situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for young professionals. improving vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Used to live on the Springfield side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in government. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in East area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.
