Alright, My partner and I are Poverty rate is 7.8%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,319 for rent here. Household incomes average around $76,835 in Ketchikan. It's a a small town city with about 8,151 people. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely hit or miss and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 36, moved here 4 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The cultural scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The traffic is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Came here for school and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The housing market is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely solid and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Old Town) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
