Moving to Kettering for work -advice?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm originally from Raleigh and Poverty rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 4.5%, which is about average. You can expect to pay around $2,285 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Kettering sits at 176.3 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Tampa about 3 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Definitely worth checking out..
