OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 52, moved here 10 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Greenfield and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Property taxes are high
3. The cost of living situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for couples. decent vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 24, moved here 15 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in South and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The weather situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The dating scene scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The school system is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Oak Park area are challenging. Kids love it here.
