Is it worth buying in Kewanee?

Military spouse here. It's a a small town city with about 12,280 people. Rent is about $775/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $70,000, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 9.4%, which is pretty low. With a population of 12,280, Kewanee is a small town. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Diverse community
- Low taxes
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events

Cons:
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
- Not enough green space
Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'm a social worker and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is average and there's always something going on.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is tough in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 6 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
