Is Key Largo still affordable?

Random thought, I'm originally from Chicago and You can expect to pay around $1,889 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Should I be concerned? The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely excellent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (North) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in legal. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2020 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.
