People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I overthinking this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 14 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much affordable but now it's solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- The cultural scene scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a contractor and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Lakewood. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 7 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Fairview for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- The safety scene is improving
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is tough in most areas.
