What surprised you most about Key West?

Anyone else feel this way? It's a a smaller city city with about 25,824 people. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I overthinking this? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much established but now it's underrated.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in retail. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in legal here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is underrated. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Boston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..
