My family moved here when I was a kid. It's a a mid-size city city with about 156K people. Average temperature is around 70°F, so it's warm year-round. Crime rate is something to consider — Killeen sits at 384.0 per 100K. Poverty rate is 14.0%, which is around average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Should I be concerned? The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 4 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Moved here from Portland about 13 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to housing market but Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- The public transit scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for work and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The pet-friendliness is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in construction here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is excellent. Definitely worth checking out..
