Day-to-day life in Killeen, TX

Longtime lurker here, I've been here for 5 years and Poverty rate is 14.0%, which is around average. The unemployment rate is 6.2%, which is concerning. With a population of 156K, Killeen is a mid-size city. Homes are going for about $196,000 on average. Median household income is $58,339, which feels about average for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Low crime in most areas
- Low taxes
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Sprawl everywhere
- High property taxes
- Far from major airports
Does this match your experience? Appreciate any input. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Good luck with whatever you decide..
