With a population of 156K, Killeen is a mid-size city. The median home value here is around $196,000, which is actually reasonable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What do you all think? The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much stable but now it's decent.

I work in construction here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is tough. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in finance. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is tough in most areas.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from New York about 5 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely pretty good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
