I'm a college student here and It's a a mid-size city city with about 156K people. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Denver about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'm a chef who relocated here from Minneapolis about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is improving.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 45, moved here 5 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Old Town and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Four distinct seasons
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The safety situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
