Affordable areas near Kiln?

OK so I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Am I wrong here? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Used to live on the Cedar Grove side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Fairview) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Highland area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in education. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Houston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is improving.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..
