Thinking about relocating to King from Salt Lake City
Alright, I'm retired and Household incomes average around $60,451 in King. It's a a small town city with about 7,345 people. Average temperature is around 57--F, so the weather is moderate. You can expect to pay around $937 for rent here. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I wrong here? The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The pet-friendliness is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the Riverside side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

The food scene here is decent. Tons of great Korean places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely pretty good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a real estate agent, 50, moved here 15 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Riverside and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The school system situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for families. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
