Rent in Kings Park getting crazy

Just moved here 16 months ago and Homes are going for about $586,300 on average. Rent is about $1,813/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $118,723 in Kings Park. Median household income is $118,723, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a small town city with about 16,249 people. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Low crime in most areas
- Lots of new development
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Has anyone dealt with this? The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Austin about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is underrated.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a writer and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

Came here for weather and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The cultural scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely underrated and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Old Town) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Westside. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
