Been meaning to ask this. Just moved here 1 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Kingsford sits at 202.0 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to.

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 15 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good airport with direct flights
- The weather scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..
