Cost of living reality check -Kingsport

Longtime lurker here, I'm retired and Rent is about $843/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. Anyone in a similar situation? Any help is appreciated. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 8 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
