We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $288,400, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $288,400 on average. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Should I be concerned? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 10 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Chicago it's improving.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 4 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.
