Random thought, Homes are going for about $529,400 on average. Poverty rate is 1.1%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What do you all think? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Austin about 13 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is solid.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much established but now it's better than expected.

The food scene here is decent. Tons of great Vietnamese places. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Bought a house here in 2024 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely solid and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 6 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely underrated and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Eastside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a electrician, 46, moved here 12 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Riverside and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The cost of living situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.
