Not sure if this has been asked before, but Born and raised here. Crime rate is something to consider -Kingston sits at 297.7 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Has anyone dealt with this?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 2 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in West area are tough. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2020 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Dallas about 6 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..
