I've been here for 3 years and Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What would you do? Cheers. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Boston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Lakewood for 14 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is decent - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Lakewood schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Rising rent and home prices. And school system can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much competitive but now it's better than expected.
