Hey everyone, I'm originally from Atlanta and Crime rate is something to consider -Kingston sits at 64.1 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Should I be concerned?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Miami it's solid.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. the quality of life is solid.

I've lived in South for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The community vibe scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Raleigh about 7 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..
