First post here. I work in energy and Rent is about $699/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. Household incomes average around $70,532 in Kingston. It's a a small town city with about 6,042 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Would love some local perspective. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The job market is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in legal. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Meadowbrook area are improving. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Downtown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
