So, Born and raised here. You can expect to pay around $1,021 for rent here. Homes are going for about $134,600 on average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What do you all think? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The walkability is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Italian.
