Housing in Kirkland compared to Cleveland

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. With a population of 91,614, Kirkland is a smaller city. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Would love some local perspective. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 29, moved here 15 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Lakewood and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The cultural scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for young professionals. solid vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The pet-friendliness is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..
