I'm a remote worker and Homes are going for about $145,300 on average. Median household income is $48,063, which feels on the lower side for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What are your go-to spots? Appreciate any input. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Raleigh it's average.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.
