What's it really like living in Kirksville?

Anyone else feel this way? Homes are going for about $145,300 on average. Any advice would be great.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 3 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely improving and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Uptown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Minneapolis about 2 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is tough.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in South for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- The public transit scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Boston it's excellent.
