Rent in Knoxville getting crazy

I grew up here but left for a while. The unemployment rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 5.5%, which is pretty low. With a population of 7,493, Knoxville is a small town. It's a a small town city with about 7,493 people. Homes are going for about $147,600 on average. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Close to nature
- Diverse community
- Low taxes

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Limited nightlife
- Mosquitoes and humidity
The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The traffic is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great Southern places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
