Is Knoxville getting better or worse?
I grew up here but left for a while. The median home value here is around $214,000, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $214,000 on average. Poverty rate is 13.0%, which is around average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to.
Pros:
- Great weather
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Strong sense of community
Cons:
- Cold winters
- High property taxes
- Boring for young people
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Far from major airports
Thoughts? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.
