Weekend activities in Kodiak?

So, I'm a 44-year-old lawyer and Crime rate is something to consider -Kodiak sits at 823.9 per 100K. Household incomes average around $71,373 in Kodiak. Median household income is $71,373, which feels about average for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Should I be concerned? Any help is appreciated. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much manageable but now it's hit or miss.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in East for 11 years. Moved from Seattle for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Chain restaurants dominate. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
